CCTV for Apartments & Societies: What to Know

A practical guide to CCTV for apartments and societies in Delhi NCR — covering gates, parking, lifts and common areas with a reliable multi-camera setup.

CCTV for a society or apartment complex is a bigger job than a single home. You are covering shared spaces, many entry points and a lot of daily footfall. Here is what RWAs and committees should know before they plan.

Cover the high-traffic and sensitive areas

Start with the places that matter most for safety and disputes:

  • Main gate and visitor entry: a clear record of every person and vehicle coming in.
  • Parking areas: protect residents' vehicles and settle scratch or theft complaints.
  • Lifts and lobbies: common spots for incidents in shared buildings.
  • Boundary walls and back gates: cover the points people forget.
  • Clubhouse, play area and common amenities.

Use the right cameras for big spaces

Large open areas like main gates and parking are ideal for PTZ cameras, which can pan, tilt and zoom to follow activity and cover a wide area with fewer units. Combine these with fixed cameras at doorways and lifts. For number plates at the gate, use higher-resolution cameras so the footage is actually usable as proof.

Plan recording for many cameras

A society setup can easily run into dozens of cameras, so recording needs careful sizing. You will want enough storage to keep 30 days or more across all cameras, with the recorders kept in a secure room — often the guard cabin or society office. We design the recorder and storage to match the camera count and retention you need.

Give the right people access

For a society, access control matters. Typically the security guard sees live feeds at the gate, while committee members can view remotely on their phones. We set up role-appropriate access so the system is useful without footage being open to everyone.

Think about long-term upkeep

  • Maintenance: with this many cameras, a maintenance plan keeps everything running — dust, weather and the occasional fault are inevitable.
  • Power backup: cameras at the gate should stay live during power cuts.
  • Phased rollout: societies can start with priority areas and expand later; we leave room in the recorders for this.

Every society layout is unique, so the right plan comes from a proper site walk-through with your committee. We map coverage, recommend camera types and counts, and give a clear quote after a site survey — useful when you need to present numbers to the RWA.
