Their visible shape is part of the point: a bullet on the wall tells anyone approaching they are on camera, which helps at a society gate, a factory boundary, a shop shutter, a parking lot or the approach to a house. The longer body also takes a longer lens, so you can frame a driveway, a lane or a row of parking and still pick out faces and number plates near the entry.
