WiFi vs Wired CCTV: Which Should You Choose?

WiFi CCTV is quick and cable-free; wired CCTV is rock-solid and reliable. Here's how to choose the right one for your home or business.

One of the first CCTV choices is WiFi versus wired. Both have real strengths — here's an honest comparison so you pick what suits your situation.

WiFi CCTV

Pros: quick to install, minimal cabling, easy to reposition, ideal for rentals and small homes. Cons: depends on your WiFi signal strength and stability, and cameras still need power nearby. Great for a few cameras in a WiFi-covered space. More on WiFi cameras →

Wired CCTV

Pros: rock-solid reliability, no dependence on WiFi, better for many cameras and large or multi-floor properties, consistent recording. Cons: needs cabling done properly during installation. For most homes, shops and offices that want set-and-forget reliability, wired is the standard.

What about a mix?

Many of our installs are hybrid — wired cameras for the main coverage, with a WiFi or 4G camera where running a cable is impractical. You get reliability where it counts and flexibility where you need it.

How to decide

  • Few cameras, good WiFi, want it quick → WiFi.
  • Many cameras, large property, want maximum reliability → wired.
  • Some tricky spots → hybrid.
  • No internet or power at the site → 4G or solar.
