CCTV for Shops: A Complete Buying Guide

Securing a shop is different from a home. Here's how to choose the right cameras, coverage and recording for a retail space.

A shop has security needs a home rarely covers. The cash counter, the entrance, the aisles and the stockroom each demand a different angle. Plan it well and your CCTV will deter theft, settle disputes and give a clear record when something goes wrong.

Start with the key zones

Before choosing hardware, walk your shop and mark where loss or risk is highest.

  • Entrance: a face-capture camera at head height, so you record identifiable faces rather than the tops of heads.
  • Billing counter: overhead coverage of the till and customer to settle cash disputes.
  • Aisles and displays: wide coverage to deter and record shoplifting.
  • Stockroom and back door: protect inventory and watch staff exits.

Choosing the right cameras

Indoor dome cameras suit shop floors because they are discreet and hard to tamper with, while weatherproof bullet cameras cover the shopfront. For reading faces and notes clearly, higher-resolution models earn their place at the counter, and the night-vision range should keep each spot readable after closing. Recording and remote viewing

Size your storage to keep at least 15 to 30 days of footage, so you can review an incident that surfaces days later. Set up mobile viewing to check the shop from anywhere, and keep the recorder locked out of sight, because a thief who grabs the DVR takes the evidence too.

Warning signs and when to call a professional

Grainy playback, cameras dropping offline, drifted timestamps, or footage that overwrites too quickly all warn of a system that will let you down. If cameras are faulty or misaligned, our CCTV repair team can diagnose them. A full setup involves blind-spot mapping, concealed cabling and recorder configuration that are easy to get wrong, so a survey is worth it. A site visit carries a small ₹500 charge that is adjusted into the bill once you go ahead, and any device left in our care is covered up to a maximum of ₹10,000. Footage backup remains your responsibility. Book a survey through our contact page.
