1. hard disk is full or failed
The most common reason is the surveillance hard disk. Either it is full and overwrite is switched off, or the disk has failed with age. Check the recorder menu for disk status. If it shows No Disk, Error or 0 GB, the hard disk likely needs replacing.
- Turn on overwrite so old footage is replaced automatically
- If the disk reads as faulty, it must be changed
2. recording schedule turned off
Sometimes the recording schedule is blank or set to the wrong hours. In the recorder settings, make sure recording is enabled 24x7 or on motion for every camera channel. A wrong schedule means cameras show live but save nothing.
3. power problems
If the recorder or cameras keep losing power, recording stops. A weak SMPS power supply, loose adapter or frequent power cuts can all be the culprit. Check that the recorder stays on steadily and the power light is solid.
4. loose cables or bad ports
A loose SATA or power cable inside the recorder can stop the disk from being detected. Camera channels with damaged cables may also drop out. These need a careful check inside the unit.
A few simple habits also keep your system reliable: check footage on your phone once a week so you spot problems early, keep overwrite turned on so the disk never simply stops, and use a surveillance-grade hard disk rather than an old desktop drive. Hard disks are wear items, so even a good one runs out of life after a few years of non-stop recording, and it pays to replace it before it fails completely.
