One of the biggest CCTV decisions is IP versus analogueue. Both can give you reliable security — the right choice depends on your priorities and budget.
Analogue (HD) CCTV
Modern analogueue cameras (HD over coax) are a world away from the grainy systems of the past. They deliver clear footage, work with an affordable DVR, and are extremely reliable. For most homes and shops, a good analogueue HD system offers the best value.
IP CCTV
IP cameras send digital video over a network cable to an NVR. They support much higher resolutions (4MP, 5MP, 8MP/4K), digital zoom that stays sharp, and smart features like line-crossing and face/number-plate clarity. They're the better choice when fine detail and smart alerts matter.
Side by side
- Image detail: IP wins, especially for zoom and identification.
- Cost: Analogue is more economical to buy and install.
- Cabling: IP with PoE is tidy; analogueue needs coax + power.
- Scalability: IP scales more easily for large sites.
Our recommendation
For a typical home or shop where you mainly want a clear record of who came and went, a quality analogueue HD setup is excellent value. For offices, showrooms, societies or anywhere you need to identify faces and plates with certainty, go IP. We're happy to quote both so you can compare — start with a site survey →
